Amare Stoudemire Out for Game 3 Following Hand Injury

Today’s Lesson: If you lost a basketball game, don’t release your anger using your HAND, because you probably won’t be able to play…

Amare Stoudemire will be sidelined for game three against the Miami Heat Thursday (May 3), due to a self inflicted injury caused by punching glass following the Knicks 104-94 lost last Monday. He reportedly thought the case containing the fire extinguisher was plastic but instead the covering turned out to be glass.

“He didn’t haul off and punch the glass; he hit it out of frustration,” a person who witnessed Stoudemire hitting the glass surrounding the fire extinguisher told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard. “He kind of slapped it, but with a closed fist.

A league source that witnessed the aftermath had this to say,

“Half of his hand was just hanging off. It was really bad. Blood was just squirting out. That’s why they had the paramedics come in, because they thought he might have punctured an artery because of how much blood was coming out.”

Team doctors from both the Miami Heat and New York Knicks responded to the emergency and Miami paramedics tended to the injured Stoudemire by stitching the wound up.

Amare visited a hand specialist at the Hospital of Special Surgery on Tuesday (May 1).  Stoudemire had a “small muscle” repaired during the visit but according to team sources no ligament or tendon damage was present.

Stoudemire will be reassessed for the remainder of the series, but there is reportedly a strong possibility that he could miss the rest of the series no matter if it goes past four games.

The Knicks went 14-5 without their star forward in the regular season and in that time Carmelo Anthony played his best basketball, earning him the Eastern Conference Player of the Month Award for the month of April.

After questioned about Stoudemire’s injury on Monday night Carmelo had this to say,

“It seems like there’s always something happening,” Anthony said about the drama surrounding his team. “But at this point, it is what it is. We’ve got to move forward.”

The Knicks have no choice but to move forward, and unfortunately it will be without their best forward.

Do you think this could turn out to be a good thing for the Knicks? Will they play better without him and actually win a game in the series?
